Cappadocia is one of the most exciting destinations in Central Turkey, 200 km southeast of Ankara. This is the region where the famous "fairy chimneys". The Cappadocia Valley was the first time in volcanic ash 10 miilion years Erciyes a nearby volcanic mountain. Most of the pictures you see are with white rocks, like snow. It is called white ash Tuffs in geology and the rocks were by erosion by rain, wind and rivers in 10 million years and some erosion was dug by humans, where it houses and churces. It was a hideout for early Christianty and 100 AD. In the area there are about 2000 churces dug underground. The churces are very small, less than 20 people.
Ürgüp-Goreme-Uçhisar have the best accommodation for the exploration of the area. The most spectacular sights are within the triangle (Goreme). Urgüp and Goreme is the true heart of Cappadocia and if you want more than just the standard tour should get there. You probably need at least 4-5 days to see the entire territory. In recent times, there are several hot air ballons in surves for tourists in summer and you should be up in the air and enjoy the sights, floating or the valley and the flood of images.
South of the cities above the underground cities of Kaymakli and Derinkuyu are extremely fascinating. Also make sure you visit Ihlara Valley, while in the area. Ihlara Valley was first filled with basalt lava flow from a nearby volcanic mountain HasanDag and later found erosion by the river and the whole valley is about 100 meters deep by erosion. The rocks in and around the valley was broken by basalts and they were easily undermined by water and wind.
The area is also famous for its wine and Turkish rugs.
