New currency in Turkey

The Turkey leads by 1 January 2009 a currency reform in miniature format. Basically does not change very much, except that the currency gets a new name as well as notes and coins in a new outfit will be present. From the former "New Turkish Lira" will be only the Turkish lira, the bank will be new faces of historically significant persons to be seen. Unlike many EU citizens a few years ago, remains the Turks a conversion of the monetary value, however, spared, because in this area, nothing will change.

For more or less heated debates in Turkey, the fact ensured that, in future, the first time a woman on a Turkish bank will be on view. The 50-lira bill is from the New Year's Day 2009 portrait of the Turkish women's rights activist and writer Fatma Aliye decorate.

Aliye was with an Ottoman historian, is married and became the first Turkish writer ever. In her books, she is primarily for the rights and the emancipation of women, but also translated articles from French into Turkish. A career, which seems even more remarkable when you consider that Fatma Aliye never attended school and is reading, writing and French quasi self taught.

The citizens of Turkey are largely agree that now a woman on a bill will be shown, but there are also opinions that deal with a woman from the sphere of Kemal Ataturk, founder of the State of Turkey, had better friends can .
